Spring Classic | Milano San Rapids 2018

Heartland Spring Classics: Sport training rides with distances ranging between 79/50 and 120/75 kilometers/miles at moderate to hard paces. These are local LSD (Long Steady Distance) training rides loosely patterned after the European spring classics. The ride group is strongly encouraged to stay together, forming up if gaps or splits occur. Sport pace can be characterize as moderate (16-19 mph) to hard (20-24 mph). All riders should be self-sustained, being prepared with food and water, and able to deal with any mechanical difficulties, if necessary. Route map and cue sheet can be picked up at the ride start.
Head out on one of the most popular Heartland/local ride routes, along the Wisconsin River on West River Drive, then continue heading west to Rudolph, over some climbs on Hwy C, then south to Rapids, around the paper mill and back to Plover along Biron Dr. that follows the Wisconsin River, before finishing in Point–about 50 miles. Maps and cue sheets will be provided for the ride.
Food and Drinks:
If you arrive early, there is coffee, smoothies, and other breakfast items at Emy J’s (on your own). Some of us will relax after the ride, and maybe catch some brunch (on your own). Otherwise, you should bring enough food and water to carry with you on the bike during the ride.
Things to Remember:
- The course will not be marked on the road.
- You will be responsible for getting yourself back to the start point. You may need to rely on a map if you fall back from, or get out in front of, the group.
- Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our Club well and is highly recommended.
- And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
