The Event: This year marks the 15th annual Tour de Trillium, a chance to ride the forested back roads of western Portage County which are normally full of spring flowers this time of year. Especially noteworthy, the hundreds of white trilliums we usually see popping up on the forest floors. But a check of the roads and forests out to the west of Stevens Point revealed no trilliums yet, but there are trullium plants and buds. Thus we have move this event up by two weeks from last year. We'll keep watching to see if we have the timing right.

Directions: From the east or west, take US Hwy 10 to Stevens Point and continue into town on Hwy 66 west. From the north or south, take I39 to US Hwy 10. Turn north on Water St./N. Second St. to small "strip-mall" on left just south of Portage Street, less than 1 block north of CenterPoint Drive. Emy J's is the west-most store/cafe in the small group of buildings.

The Ride: We will set out heading to the west in search of trilliums. An informal ride of between 25 and 35 miles is planned, heading initially out West River Drive. If the trillium is out, we know the forest floors along Hwy PP and Linwood Drive will be covered. We will be hunting for more. This is a social ride and the pace will be set by those who show up. We may split into different groups based on riding abilities, but no one will have to ride alone.

Food and Drinks: For those who want, we will gather after the ride at Emy J's for refreshments (on your own). We can share stories about who saw the most/biggest trilliums!!

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourself back to the start point. You may need to rely on a map if you fall back from, or get out in front of, the group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our Club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
