Rusty’s Color of Fall Ride

Saturday, October 11th
1:00 p.m.
Rusty's Backwater Saloon

1715 West River Drive

(7 miles southwest of Stevens Point on West River Drive.)

The Event: Join your fellow cyclists for a ride from Rusty’s Backwater Saloon at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 11. Enjoy the Fall colors on two routes of either 50 + or 35 miles through great country roads of Portage and Wood Counties. Hopefully our ride will feature sightings of migrating fowl and other wildlife, and the colors will be at their peak.

Directions: Rusty's is located approximately five miles southwest of Stevens Point off of Highway P on West River Drive where Mill Creek empties into the Wisconsin River. A more scenic route is preferred by taking West River Drive along the Wisconsin River, about seven miles with light traffic making it a great bike ride from Stevens Point.

The Ride: Rides of 50 plus and 35 miles will be mapped. Shortcuts will be available. Routes will have NO gravel roads. Maps and cue sheets will be provided for each ride. Stick around after the ride for lunch at Rusty's--they have great hamburgers and we'll have great conversation!

The Eating: Those who want to stay and enjoy the non-smoking bar and restaurant are encouraged to eat with us "Dutch treat" after the ride--you might be surprised at their extensive sandwich menu. Even if you can't make the ride, come join us about 3:00 pm. Rusty's does not accept credit cards, but does have an ATM on site.

Avoid Riding Alone: Everyone can help to make all Club rides more enjoyable by finding other riders of about the same speed to ride with. Get to know these riders and call them well in advance to make sure you have someone to enjoy the ride with.

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourself back to the start point, and you may need to rely on the route map if you fall back from, or get out in front of our group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
