Oktoberfest
Brats, Beer, and Bikes

Saturday ~ October 18th
1:00 pm
Central Waters Brewery
Amherst, WI

The Event: The Oktoberfest / Brats, Beer, and Bikes will be a relaxed, social ride and picnic. Starting time will be 1:00 pm, in order to let the day warm up a bit. The idea is to enjoy a leisurely ride and the fall colors, returning to to the Brewery for a cookout, including brats, beans, chili and, of course, great Central Waters beer. If the weather is inclement, please come anyway for the grill out and the socializing.

The ride: The main route for this the third year will be the same as last year's: about 32 miles along the beautiful, quite, rustic country roads of eastern Portage County. Three other loops of approx. 15 each are available to either lengthen or shorten this base route. (See map.) If this year is anything like previous fall rides on this weekend, we'll see fantastic autumn colors.

NOTE: IF YOU CAN, PLEASE PRINT OUT THE MAP AND BRING IT WITH YOU. This will help save work and copying costs.

There is also the Tomorrow River State Trail option for families w/kids or those who normally don't do much road biking. Bikers can go from Amherst to Scandinavia and back (or turnaround when they are tired) for a car-less route. This segment of the trail is all tree-lined, unlike the Portage County segment, and should be gorgeous this time of year.

Please arrive at 12:45 pm so we can leave promptly at 1:00 pm.

Food and Drink: Heartland will provide the brats (including turkey brats and boca burgers), buns, and beans, and Central Waters the beer. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to pass such as chips, veggies, potato salad, etc., and you're welcome to bring other food and drink of your choice if you'd rather not have beer and brats.

Directions: The ride will start at the new Central Waters Brewery, Amherst, WI. From Hwy 10, exit Hwy B and turn left into Amherst. At the 4 way stop on Main St, turn right. Turn left on Washington St (Hwy V) just before the train bridge. Continue up the hill turning right on Allen St. The brewery is at the end of the street.

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the start point. You will need to rely on the map if you fall back from, or get out in front of your group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, the wearing of an approved helmet when riding is required.
