Iola Ice Cream Ride

Sunday, June 22nd
9:00 a.m.

*** All routes lead to ice cream! ***
The Millstone of Iola Mills
(Hy 161 West and Hy 49, Downtown Iola)

The Ride: All the routes will end at The Millstone in Iola, where we'll cool off from a hard day's ride with some cool treats (see some selections), new for 2008: Authentic Italian gelato and sorbeto!

Routes for 2008!

Big Hills Route: 40-mile loop through some of the better climbs of northern Waupaca County. Nope, Poverty Hill is not on this route (that’s the Southern Big Hills Route!), but Wasrud, Seven Mile Hill and Pleasant Valley, among others, are! This is a challenging route with a lot of hills interspersed with one long, flat section -- until you get to another "hell-of-a-hill"!

Big Falls Route: 25-mile loop on beautiful, seldom-driven – or biked -- backroads and a few short sections of county trunks from Iola to Big Falls and back. In addition to Big Falls and Little Falls, an elk farm is one of the highlights on this medium-length route.

Little Lakes Route: This 12-mile loop is great for beginners and casual bikers. The route brings riders on scenic back roads, past a few small lakes plus Glacier Woods golf course. It’s basically a flat route with a few small hills.

Time: Let's gather at 8:45 am, so we can leave promptly at 9:00.

Breakfast option: The Millstone opens at 8 a.m. and will have waffles and breakfast sandwiches available, as well as coffee and cappuccino. Please arrive well before our 9 a.m. departure time if you plan on having breakfast, as we'll be leaving promptly at 9 a.m. NOTE: the Club only pays for the after-ride treats, so breakfast is on you.

Place:The Millstone of Iola Mills, intersection of Hy 161 West and Hy 49, downtown Iola.

Directions:
From Stevens Point - Hy 10 to Hy 161 to Iola
From Plover: same route as Point; or take Cty B to Scandinavia, Hy 49 North to Iola
From Wausau: Hy 29 east to Hy 49 South to Iola
From Waupaca: Hy 49 to downtown Iola

Maps and Cue Sheets: Maps and cue sheets will be provided for each ride.

Avoid Riding Alone: Everyone can help to make all Club rides more enjoyable by finding other Club riders of about the same speed to ride with. Get to know these riders and call them well in advance to make sure you have someone to enjoy the ride with.

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the start point. You will need to rely on the map if you fall back from, or get out in front of your group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
