(Centre Village, Amherst)

The Event: Fall colors will accompany us on our route to four of the 10 art studios on this year’s Hidden Studios: Art Along The Ice Age Trail event. We’ll leave from the Amherst Cafe & Travel shop at 10:00 am and follow (roughly) the Midwest Recumbent Rally’s medium and long routes to Iola and back to Amherst, stopping at the art studios along the way.

In its fifth year, the Hidden Studios Tour highlights art studios in Central Wisconsin, with the “home” artist usually also inviting guests artists to exhibit in his or her studio. Artwork is for sale during (or after) the tour. (NOTE: the tour runs Oct. 3-5, so you could also check out the other studios in the area on another day, hopefully on your bike!) Here are the four studios we’ll be visiting:

The Ride: There will be a (roughly) 32-mile loop from Amherst to Iola and back, with stops at the four studios. There is also a longer (approx. 50 mile) option available for those interested. A shorter route is also available, as an out-and-back route, length depending on how far toward Iola one bikes before turning around.

Time: Let's gather at 9:45 am, so we can leave promptly at 10:00.

Breakfast option: The Amherst Cafe & Travel shop opens at 8:00 a.m. and has a breakfast menu available, as well as coffee and cappuccino. Please arrive well before our 10:00 a.m. departure time if you plan on having breakfast, as we'll be leaving promptly at 10:00 a.m. NOTE: Breakfast is on you.

Maps and Cue Sheets: Maps and cue sheets will be provided for each ride.

Avoid Riding Alone: Everyone can help to make all Club rides more enjoyable by finding other Club riders of about the same speed to ride with. Get to know these riders and call them well in advance to make sure you have someone to enjoy the ride with.

Things to Remember:
  • The course may be marked on the road, but don't rely on it.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the start point. You will need to rely on the map if you fall back from, or get out in front of your group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
