NEW ROUTES!
2nd Annual
Ride for the Angus!

Saturday, August 23rd
1:00 p.m.

TW Martin's Public House
Waupaca, Wisconsin
(map)

The Event: Now for something completely different: a Saturday afternoon ride followed by some excellent food and brews at the smoke-free English-style pub, T.W. Martin's Public House in Waupaca! Outdoor dining available as well. If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out on one of Central Wisconsin's unique restaurants!

In addition to an excellent, diverse menu -- including fantastic burgers, shepard's pie and bangers and smash! -- the bar features many fine brews, including Guinness and Amherst's own Central Waters Brewery. All food and beverage is "on your own".

The Ride: Something for everyone! We’re heading west, north and/or east of Waupaca on this ride. The 55-mile long route is HILLY. The two 40-mile medium routes are either a flat route heading NE toward Manawa and back through Ogdensburg or a hilly route heading west toward Amherst then back to Scandinavia and Waupaca. A short 12-mile route will also be available. Plus, for those who enjoy trail riding, you can hop on the River Ridge Trail in Waupaca which includes some street riding, plus a nice trail through wooded areas.

Time: Let's gather at 12:45 pm, so we can leave promptly at 1:00 pm. The pub will be open for bathroom use only starting at noon, with beverages and food available after 3:00 pm.

Place: T.W. Martin's Public House. 111 Cooper Street, Waupaca, Wisconsin. (map)

Additional Activities: You might want to come early and check out Waupaca's new bike shop, Mid Life Cycle, on the north end of Main Street (221 North Main Street). The road to the park/TW Martin's is directly across the street (down the hill) from the bike shop. The bike shop closes at 1:00 pm on Saturdays, so visit before the ride and say hello to co-owners George and Julie Neubauer. The shop carries a variety of Schwinn and GT bikes. For non-bikers, there are many unique shops in downtown Waupaca, as well as a lot of historic old buildings to look at.

Maps and Cue Sheets: Maps and cue sheets will be provided for each ride.

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the start point. You will need to rely on the map if you fall back from, or get out in front of your group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • Avoid Riding Alone: Everyone can help to make all Club rides more enjoyable by finding other Club riders of about the same speed to ride with. Get to know these riders and call them well in advance to make sure you have someone to enjoy the ride with.
  • And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
