The 100th Day Ride
(See: Setting A Riding Goal)
Tuesday ~ September 16th 5:00 PM
Goerke Fieldhouse -- east parking lot (Corner of Main and Minnesota, Stevens Point)

The Event:
What's it like to ride your bike every day? What's it like to ride your bike
for 100 days straight? Find out from a Heartland member who has. Join us to
celebrate Jack's 100th day in a row that he's ridden his bike this summer (June 9 - September 16)on a special
bike ride for all road cyclists. "It is kind
of like brushing your teeth—you just get up every day and do it. So it's not a
question of whether you will ride today, but a question of when and where."
On this day (Tuesday) we will ride at five o'clock out to the northeast, starting as one group,
then splitting into a social group (13-15 mph) and a sport group (19-21 mph),
and then meeting up again to finish the ride back into town. It'll be a blast!!
Directions: Goerke Park Field House is located on the southeast corner of
Main Street and Minnesota Avenue in Stevens Point (see map). We'll meet in the
parking lot between the field house and K.B. Willett Ice Arena. If you are driving
and the lot is full, there is plenty of street parking close by.
The Ride: We will need to depart promptly at 5:00 PM so we can return before
dark. There will be no maps or queue sheets, since these are roads we've
been riding all summer: Wilshire to Jordan Rd. to Co Y to Bentley and back again.
The social group will ride up Co Y to Co K to Bentley to Co Y and back (about 25
miles); the sport group will ride up Co Y to Co J to Shantytown Rd. to Bentley to
Co Y and back (about 32 miles total). The two groups will split at Jordan Park,
and we think we should be able to meet up again on the way back somewhere on Co Y
or Jordan Rd. Both groups will ride at a speed that will accommodate all the riders
in the group, so no one will be dropped or left to ride alone. Jack will lead the
sport group, and Jeanette the social group.
The Refreshments: Actually, this is just another excuse to get together
for a group bike ride on what is forecast to be a wonderful day. So don't look for
any food or refreshments other than what you bring along for the ride! If anyone
wants, we could end up at Emy J's or Belts or somewhere!
Things to Remember:
- The course will not be marked on the road.
- You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the
start point. You will need to rely on a map (not provided) if you fall back from, or get out
in front of our groups.
- Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining
single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows
respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
- And as always, certified helmets are required to be worn when riding at all Heartland sponsored events.
