Iola Ice Cream Ride

Sunday, June 20th
9:00 a.m.

Iola Old Car Show Grounds

The Ride: Join us for our annual Iola Ice Cream Ride. Routes of approximately 12, 25 and 55 miles are available for Heartland bikers as we pedal down lightly traveled, tree-covered scenic roads in Waupaca County north, east and south of Iola. Wild turkeys, sandhill cranes, deer and an occasional bald eagle are on the nature list. Other highlights include Big Falls and Little Falls, elk and bison farms, Spa In The Woods, Symco Thresheree grounds, the Tomorrow River Trail's new bike bridge at Scandinavia, and more.

At the end of the ride, ice cream treats will be provided to Club members at Shivers in downtown Iola. A special concoction, Trail's End Sundae, created by club member Greg Loescher, is recommended. Two other ice cream stops are also available, depending on which route you're on, but ice cream at those two stops are not paid for by the Club.

Time: Let's gather at 8:45 am, so we can leave promptly at 9:00.

Place: Iola Old Car Show Grounds, Hy 161 east of Iola. Enter at main car show grounds gate just east of Krause Publications. (Bathroom facilities and water are located at the ride start.)

Maps and Cue Sheets: Maps and cue sheets will be provided for each ride.

Avoid Riding Alone: Everyone can help to make all Club rides more enjoyable by finding other Club riders of about the same speed to ride with. Get to know these riders and call them well in advance to make sure you have someone to enjoy the ride with.

Things to Remember:
  • The course will not be marked on the road.
  • You will be responsible for getting yourselves back to the start point. You will need to rely on the map if you fall back from, or get out in front of your group.
  • Even though we will be riding on country roads, remaining single file or at most two abreast and on the right side of the road shows respect for motorists, represents our club well and is highly recommended.
  • And as always, you will receive disparaging looks if you choose to ride without a helmet.
